Photos of Westboro

by Jess WF on May 21, 2013

I’m nearly a year late on this post but I couldn’t resist getting a few photos from last year’s Westboro Village Photo contest up on our blog. Does anyone know if the Westboro BIA is going to do it again this year? I sure hope so, some of these are priceless!

When we first opened up in Westboro there was discussion of Magpie getting a lawn bowling team together, but from the looks of things, we wouldn’t be able to keep up.

I think most of the photos were taken in October of 2012, isn’t the Fall in Ottawa gorgeous? Don’t get me wrong, I want it to be summer, but those colours!

Aren’t they ever cute?

The view from Bridgehead by Magpie.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find the credits for the photos above, but to everyone who participated last year, well done! See all of the submissions here, and if you want to see more of Ottawa check out Apartment613′s Flickr page.

This May Long Weekend

by Jess WF on May 17, 2013

In the very unlikely event that you haven’t been preparing and daydreaming about what to do this long weekend for the past month, here are a few fun things going on in Ottawa:

-Tomorrow Chinatown Remixed is kicking off their 5th annual Arts Festival. Concerts in Laundromats, sidewalks for galleries, Kichesippi beer garden…

-You could visit the opening reception of Rémi Thériault and Michael Graeme Ross’s photography exhibit at CAO (2 Daly).

-This weekend is your last chance to visit the Ottawa Tulip Festival

-You can start preparing a space for all the great things you’re going to find at THE GREAT GLEBE GARAGE SALE (!!!). Which is actually next weekend (stay tuned for what we’ll be stocking outside this year).

-You could give this a try… I think I will.

-On Monday, don’t dwell on what’s closed, Museums are open, the Rideau Centre is open, or prepare yourself early and have a picnic.

For more weekend ideas, check out Apartment613′s weekend roundup

Long weekends are never quite as long as they should be are they?

P.S. Magpie in the Rideau Centre will be open on Monday and our online store is always open

Mother’s Day Round Up

by Jess WF on May 2, 2013

No two moms are alike, but I think all the moms I know have one major thing in common (other than being moms!), they all have great taste.  For all you moms and the moms you know, here is my personal round up of great gifts from Magpie for Mother’s day. (Yes, I am a mom and yes, I am expecting at least one of the things listed.)

You really can’t go wrong with anything from W. Jewellery. The stackable rings are simply perfect.

Something super sweet from Tashi

Pyrrha has something for your mom, I assure you.

Wouldn’t these would look great paired with a glass of wine after dropping the kids off at their grandparents?

I would definitely buy a bracelet by Anne Marie Chagnon for my mom, the woman has STYLE.

Tell your mom you love her,

Satin & Snowflakes

by Jess WF on April 30, 2013

April being Magpie’s bridal month, we’ve been spending a lot of time scouring the internet for really fun wedding blogs and interesting wedding ideas. As luck would have it, half way through the month I received a phone call from the founder of the Ottawa blog  Satin and Snowflakes Brittany Frid, (she was looking to borrow a few gorgeous Anne Sporton rings from Magpie for an inspiration shoot that we are delighted to be a part of) and that was the first time I visited her site. I Is everyone already familiar with it? I have totally been missing out!

Photos by Janine Bell of Intuition Photography.

It doesn’t get much more Ottawa than the photo shoot above does it?  Brittany’s blog is full of inspiration specific to Ottawa brides, along with a calendar of bridal events going on in the city. It’s a beautifully designed site that is consistently updated with gorgeous photos of weddings from Ottawa and beyond. If you haven’t visited it yet, I highly recommend pouring over the photos for a few hours like I did.

Megan Thorne, Thank you!

by Jess WF on April 29, 2013

We had such a fabulous time meeting and working with Megan Thorne this weekend! Seeing Megan’s full collection in person and trying it all on means being forever hooked on the fine details and charm of her jewellery. I personally couldn’t resist and bought the Anne Marie Studs with rose cut diamonds

Here are some photos from the event, and don’t worry if you missed it, we’ll always have our collection of Megan Thorne available and I’m quite sure she’ll be invited back.

The gorgeous display by Gemma from Pieces of Love Vintage Rentals and this gorgeous vintage wedding gown from Victoire.

Megan Thorne necklace with another one of Victoire’s vintage wedding gowns and some adorable tiny chairs from Pieces of Love.

What a wonderful day.

I love her idea for displaying jewellery in antique frames, Megan you might see this at Magpie next time you visit.

The dresses were such a hit!  If you are interested in finding out more about them email notrevictoire@gmail.com

We got so lucky with the weather on Sunday! What a perfect day for a special event in the Glebe.

Thanks again Megan! A big thank you to everyone who helped make our final bridal event so spectacular!

Happy Monday!
